Studio or In-Home? Choosing the Best Space for Your Newborn Portraits

Studio or In-Home? Choosing the Best Space for Your Newborn Portraits in Amarillo, Texas.

When you are preparing for a newborn session, one of the biggest decisions you’ll make is where the portraits will take place. As a motherhood photographer here in Amarillo, I am often asked which is "better."

The truth is, both options offer a beautiful, intentional way to document your baby’s first days. My goal is always to provide a low-stress process that fits your family’s current rhythm. Whether we are in the comfort of your nursery or the curated light of my studio, the focus remains on your raw, authentic connection.

The Comfort of an In-Home Session

I highly encourage in-home newborn sessions for several reasons. There is something incredibly special about documenting your baby in the environment where they will grow up.

  • Comfort & Climate: We are in your space, where the temperature is exactly where you want it, and everything you need for the baby is within arm's reach.

  • Safety & Ease: You don't have to worry about packing a diaper bag and getting the whole family out the door. I come to you, allowing you to stay relaxed in your own home.

  • Authenticity: We capture the nursery you spent months preparing and the quiet corners of your life that will change so much in the coming years.

The Ease of a Studio Session

While I love the intimacy of a home, there are many reasons a studio session might be the better fit for you. I recently had a set of twins in the studio, and it was the perfect solution for their family!

The studio is a great choice if:

  • You are in the middle of a move: If you’re surrounded by boxes or in a temporary space, the thought of hosting a photo session at home can be overwhelming.

  • You want a "Lifestyle" feel without the house prep: I have a dedicated set in a corner of my Downtown Amarillo Studio specifically for lifestyle newborn sessions. With a comfortable bed, a soft rug, and fresh florals on a stand, it feels "homey" and warm without you having to clean a single room.

  • Light: My studio features a large window for plenty of natural light, ensuring that no matter what the Amarillo weather is doing outside, your photos will have beautiful, natural light.

A Baby-Led Approach

Regardless of the location, my sessions are always baby-led. We take breaks for feedings, diaper changes, and cuddles. We move at your baby’s pace to ensure they are safe, comfortable, and content.

Whether we utilize the "homey" set in my studio or I meet you at your front door, I handle the heavy lifting so you can simply focus on your new addition.
