Watching the Amarillo Spring Bloom: A Timeline for Your Portraits

The time has changed, the days are getting longer, and for those of us in the Texas Panhandle, that means the landscape is finally starting to wake up. As we wrap up Spring Break, I’ve been keeping a close eye on the trees.

If you’ve driven through town lately, you’ve probably noticed the "in-between" stage we’re in. Some trees are showing those beautiful white blooms, while others are still just twigs waiting for their turn. Spring in Amarillo doesn’t happen all at once; it’s a slow, intentional process.

What to Expect This Season

If our season follows the pattern we saw last year, we can expect a gradual transformation over the next month. Here is a general timeline of what I’m watching for:

  • Late March: The first signs of life. We’ll see early blooms and the very beginning of the spring colors.

  • Early April: More variety starts to show up as the mid-season trees join in. (Around this time, we might get our last freeze!)

  • Mid-to-Late April: This is typically when we see the "full" bloom—the window where the Panhandle landscape feels the most lush and vibrant.

Planning with the Season in Mind

Because every spring is a little different, I approach these sessions with a lot of flexibility. If you have been thinking about a maternity or family session among the blooms, now is the time to start the conversation. I have a blog coming out soon about how we can bring your vision to life, even with unexpected weather.

I’d love to chat or meet up to talk about the vision you have for your portraits. Whether we are aiming for those delicate early blossoms or the fuller greens of late April, I want to make sure the backdrop feels right for your story.

Let’s Get You on the Calendar

If you have a few dates in mind that work best for your family, send them over! I’ll get you added to my calendar, and we can keep an eye on the blooms together. By handling the timing and the location details, I make sure the process is seamless for you so you can simply focus on your connection.

I can’t wait to see how this season unfolds and to preserve these raw, fleeting moments for your children to cherish forever.
