Outdoor Vs Studio Maternity Photography Session in Amarillo, Texas.
The experience for Studio Maternity and Outdoor lifestyle is slightly different, and I do this deliberately. My studio work is a bit more polished, while my outdoor lifestyle is softer and more fluid. It’s that way because, technically, in the studio, the lights pick up every little detail, so instinctively, I am looking at every detail to make sure everything is in place. Emotionally, I want expecting mothers to feel pampered, and I aim to enhance and accentuate the body and bump, so posing and moving every part of your body, from head to toe, is essential. Also, Motherhood changes a person, so this could possibly be the last time you feel like you've felt for a while.

Outdoor Maternity sessions are unique, softer, and have much more movement. I typically photograph outdoors during the “Golden Hour,” about an hour before sunset. The sun makes you glow, and when photographing, it softens the skin and gives the overall image a softer look. The sun is constantly moving, so we’ll need to move more to get that perfect light. When I photograph at Palo Duro Canyon, I choose spots that are close to a restroom so you can easily empty your bladder. Outdoor Maternity sessions aren’t as polished because our panhandle wind is a factor. I love it when the wind is blowing, and it blows your hair in your face. It adds an extra layer of emotion to the photo. Also, consider the time of year. There are about three to four months when it’s too cold to photograph comfortably outside. It starts to warm up around the end of April and cools down around the second week of November.
If these points align with you, then Outdoor Maternity is for you!
