Protecting Your Vision: How We Navigate Unexpected Amarillo Weather Together
If there is one thing we know about living in the Texas Panhandle, it’s that the weather doesn’t always follow the calendar. Technically, our last freeze doesn’t usually happen until around May 1st, but when we get a string of warm March days, it’s easy to think winter is behind us.
I’ve had a couple on a tight timeline for their engagement portraits. We needed the images back before their big day, which meant moving the date wasn't an option. We had a vision for "spring vibes," but Mother Nature had a different plan. If you're from around here, you know where I am going. We had an unexpected April freeze and a blanket of snow.
Finding Spring Indoors
When the weather shifts unexpectedly, my job is to carry the weight of the logistics so you don’t have to. For this session, we made a quick pivot to the Amarillo Botanical Gardens.
The greenhouse there is a hidden gem for anyone wanting that lush, spring feeling when the outside world is still gray (or white!). It allowed us to keep the session's original vision while staying warm and dry.
Braving the Elements
Even with the greenhouse as our home base, my client still wanted a few photos in the snow to document the "realness" of the day. She braved the cold in her spring dress for a few raw, authentic shots in the flakes. We kept jackets right on the sidelines to warm up immediately after, and it turned into such a fun, memorable part of their story.
Your Weather Backup Plan
Whether we are planning an engagement session, a maternity portrait, or a family milestone, I always have a "Plan B" ready for the unpredictable Amarillo sky:
The Greenhouse: Perfect for maintaining those spring or summer vibes year-round.
My Downtown Amarillo Studio: A controlled, beautiful environment where the weather never matters.
Flexibility: Because I handle a limited number of sessions, I will work closely with you to pivot locations or adjust times to ensure your vision is protected.
Documenting the Real Story
Sometimes the most meaningful photos come from the moments we didn't plan for. Whether the sun is shining or the snow is falling, my goal is to provide a well-crafted process that results in images your children will cherish forever.
