You will receive an email a few days before your session with a reminder of the date and time of your session.
Vanessa Underwood Photography and Cody's Auto Spa, Detailing share space. Feel free to park next to Cody's Auto Spa Sign. You might already know Cody is my partner and husband if you read about me.
No worries, we have our workspace entirely separated. So once you're in the studio, you won't even notice that there is a detail shop a few steps away.
I am excited to have you visit our studio for your upcoming photography session. To ensure that you can easily find us, here are some important instructions:
Parking: When you arrive at the studio, you will notice the Cody's Auto Spa sign pictured above. You are in the right place! Please park your vehicle near this sign.
Studio Entrance: Our studio is located on the south side of the building. Once you have parked, please make your way toward the west until you spot the door see the picture for reference. (Next to the entrance door, you will notice a mailbox with the address 1004. This confirms that you have reached the correct place.) This door enters into the studio.
Entering the Studio: No need to knock or wait for further instructions. Simply walk in once you have located the designated entrance. I will be ready to welcome you and assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.
I hope that these directions help you in finding our studio easily. My goal is to provide a stress-free, warm, and comfortable environment for your photography experience. If you have any additional questions about our location or anything else, please don't hesitate to contact us. We look forward to capturing beautiful memories together!
Please arrive 15 minutes before your session time. Doing so will allow us to chat and give you some minutes to lounge and acclimate to the new environment. If you are like me, it takes a minute to be comfortable in a new space.
LENGTH OF SESSION
I am an over shooter and love my job, which causes me to get lost in the moment. No worries, I’m dedicated to providing a great experience. Even though I tend to get caught up in the moment, my sessions are typically an hour.
WHAT TO WEAR
This topic is fun because I want you to be comfortable. Typically I ask expecting mothers to wear a long flowing dress. They are so beautiful to capture and will show off your pump. If a dress differs from your style, feel free to wear an article of clothing that speaks to who you are. Wear something that helps you feel comfortable and confident. If you can, I will ask you to sit for some poses, and there will be poses with your back turned.
Please feel free to find the right shoe and wear anything that fits and is comfortable. I prefer doing maternity sessions without shoes. Instead of finding the perfect shoe, pamper yourself with a pedicure. Trust me. I know the struggle of finding cute, comfortable shoes.
Lastly, there will be a point in your session when we use sheer fabric in your session. I highly recommend wearing nude undergarments. A nude thong and strapless bra are recommended for best results but are not required. The most important is that your underwear is nude.

Makeup
Makeup can be fun and intimidating. I want you to show up with whatever makes you the most confident. I am a depends-on-the-day makeup girl, so it’s a flip of the coin. I will either have a full-covered face or no makeup at all. If you want to splurge and hire a makeup artist, email me. I have a couple of ladies’ contact information I can provide. Don’t feel pressured to do so.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE MATERNITY SESSION?
My turnaround time for Maternity Sessions is about 2-4 weeks after your session. You will receive your digital gallery through the email provided. Maternity Session is a success what’s next? I know labor and delivery can be unexpected, so for this reason, I asked that you send me an email or text once you are home from the hospital, we will schedule an in-home newborn session anywhere from 7 to 14 days from being sent home. Continue reading to learn about what to expect the day of your session!
Day of session
When I arrive, I will introduce myself and visit with mom and family. Then I will walk around the house to find the best light for the session. Typically I photograph on the couch, master bed, or nursery. Please don't feel the need to clean to prepare for this session. I know what it is like to be a new mom. I suffered from postpartum depression, and cleaning was last on my list of things to do. I can move things out of the way if I feel they’re a distraction. Most likely that won’t happen since the nature of my images are intimate and close up.
Your Baby
My favorite saying is, "we are perfectly and wonderfully made." I believe this to my core. Your baby is perfect just the way they are, and I embrace the perfect imperfections. I suggest your baby wear a form-fitting onesie with no graphics or patterns. I will take off the onesie during the session to take a few nude newborn photographs. I also recommend you pick out some of your favorites swattles so we can wrap your baby.
length of session
If you're asking how long will this session take. Let me assure you I will not go over two hours. It may seem like two hours is a lot of time but I am accounting for feeding and diaper changes. I will constantly have my camera so I will be capturing every moment.
Parents
I know this day is all about your baby, but don't be alarmed that you will be in some images. As I mentioned above, the baby will lead the session, so if they want to be in your arms, I will have you hold your baby and photograph it in your arms. I bet you are wondering now what do I wear to the session. I recommend a neutral color with no graphics or designs. Lastly, This is an exhausting and exciting time of your life. I want you to relax and be yourself. I am here to capture this wonderful time of your life right now.
